Miha & Boris Sovič - new gold of OLR from Slovenia - thanks to "Marjana S" and "Barbara S"

Cven, a small village near the Slovenian town of Ljutomer, probably never thought it would one day become famous worldwide. Nevertheless, the Sovič family and their pigeons had other ideas. For a number of years they were just truly old fashion pigeon fanciers, successful competitors locally, but with no larger international acclaim. That all changed when OLR races started being held near them. Very quickly the long year selection and quality pigeon breeding by the Sovič family started showing signs of top quality. Their breakthrough to the global OLR scene was started by shy participation at their first OLR races. 
The first result came from Tenerife and the famous Arona derby race in which Miha Sovič won 1st place in the Hot spot race and car. Alongside Arona, the Sovič family started sending pigeons to SAMDPR, the next challenge in their OLR career, and here they also achieved some good results all the way up to the magical 2020. That year the whole world was surprised by the exceptional result of hen "Marjana S" at the then-biggest race in the world, SAMDPR - South Africa. After a 12-hour flight, racing against 1548 pigeons form the 600 km long final race, "Marjana S" won 1st place, beating all the best pigeon fanciers of the world along the way. The 2nd place pigeon arrived 16 minutes after her and by the end of the day only 3 pigeons come to the loft. Soviče's "Marjana S" also broke the record for the most expensive pigeon sold at the SAMDPR race when she was bought by Mike Ganus and renamed as the now famous "Night Angel". This superb hen was breed by Boris Sovič, Miha's father, and she flew in Miha Sovič's team. After the purchase of "Marjana S" Mike Ganus came into direct contact with Miha Sovič and a large group of Slovenian pigeons were relocated to the US, pigeons including some siblings of "Marjana S" and their parents. Watching back at it now, this was a great purchase for Mike Ganus. But the Sovič's success story doesn't end there. 
In 2020. they also won another tough race, the final Derby Brod race, in which not a single pigeon came back the first day and the first pigeon to come back on the second day was the one from the Sovič family. 
After the Derby Brod FCI OLR the Sovič family participated at another big race, Victoria Falls, Zimbabwe. The 600 km final race, with 1500 pigeons participating on final race, was won by none other than Miha Sovič and his hen "Barbara S". The Sovič name quickley became synonimous with a great loft and incredible OLR results. 
As an addition to these results they also won 2nd place at a difficult race in Sofia, the Sofia FCI OLR in 21' in Bulgaria, a 420 km race with 1196 pigeons participating in final. 

That same year they won 2nd place in their neighbourhood Croatia at the Derby Zagorje OLR - Hrvatska (551 km race), then 1st As pigeon Derby Avi 21' - Slovenia, 3rd As pigeon Derby Zagreb OLR 21' (5 races), 2nd As pigeon Derby Zagreb 21' (6 races), and as the icing on the cake came the year 2022. when in Pattaya, Thailand they won 2nd place from a 430 km race, semi final with 6537 pigeons participating. 

All these fantastic achievements are the result of multiple years of breeding and selection by the father and founder of racing pigeon sport in Cven, Boris Sovič, his son Miha Sovič who took the breeding and competing to another level, and a very important member of the Sovič family who shouldn't be forgotten, Zvonko Sovič, brother of Boris,  big competiton but also support for the Boris and Miha Sovič duo.

The next step in every successful pigeon fancier story are the references, of which the Sovič family have plenty. The most obvious example for this is the world-famous Mike Ganus loft from the USA, who strenghtened his flock with many original Sovič birds, who repayed him that trust. The newest superstar of the Ganus loft is "Miss Debie", the winner of the Pattaya OLR 530 km final race with 5805 pigeons participating. The mother of "Miss Debie" is the full-sister of "Marjane S" - original Sovič. That same original Sovič hen is also the mother of Mike Ganus's pigeon who won 6th place at Pattaya final race in 2022.
