If we had to draw up a list of the best long-distance/large distance fanciers of the last 30 years, the name Pollin Marc and Geert from Snellegem in West Flanders would certainly rank very high if not at the very top. Which stages they have not yet climbed, we could not say. 
Also in 2022 the champagne corks could fly back through the Snellegem air because who will soon be celebrated as 1st national champion Fond jaarse? Indeed...

Remember the super season 2015 with 4 national wins and 1st national ace pigeon KBDB 
We cannot resist highlighting the rarely seen top season 2015 in once again. Never in Belgian pigeon racing has the same fancier achieved 4 national wins in the same season, but Marc and Geert were able to add this feat to their already richly filled palmares

"Montauban II" wins 1st National Montauban 2,129b.

The national winner of Montauban was born from the pairing "Joske" x "Sister Naï". "Joske" BE09-3091293 is the result of breeding together with Jos Thoné (As). He is a son of "Mortifer" BE03-3002141 (Olympiad pigeon Dortmund 2009) x "Sedna I" BE04-5026055 (Jos Thoné and winner of 1st International Narbonne 5,870d. in 2005). "Sister Nai" BE08-3090193 - is a full sister of current top breeder "Naï". 

"Bruce" wins 1st national St Vincent 

"Like a sparrow hawk he dived down" Geert told me. "Rarely seen a pigeon arrive with so much "heft"! He was named after a good friend who died a few weeks before winning this national. Bruce Kehlet was an Australian pigeon fancier and his "memory" lives on now is this top pigeon". How grief and supreme happiness can be so close together in a matter of weeks. In his pedigree you will find "again" the top lines of the "Pollin strain". The "Dortmunter", the "Mortifer" and "Nai" are never far away. That also "fresh blood" "picks up" well with the Pollin pigeons we notice by the origin of the grandmother. She is a combination of the "Mortifer" and "Sedna" ( 1st Int. Narbonne) of Jos Thoné. That the two recent national winners are fairly close relatives can be found in the pedigree. "Bruce" his grandmother is the litter sister of the sire of "Montauban II".

"Joe" wins 1st national Libourne 5,020d. 

"Joe" is a real topper and a real long distance crack. With an already very nice palmares, he has now put his icing on his cake with the national win at Libourne of 5,020 old birds.
He is a son of the "12" which itself was a very gifted racer with numerous national top prizes and which in turn is a son of the famous top breeder the "Dortmunder". We also find traces of the national winner Limoges. The "12" was mated to a daughter of that other topper "Cadel" and on the grandmother's side we find the origin of the national winner Perpignan. The best historical blood of the Pollin strain united in this top pigeon. What a winner !

"New Belgian Pride" beats everyone and wins Libourne yearlings from 5,890 pigeons! Also becomes 1st National ace pigeon KBDB Great Fond yearlings 2015 !

This beautiful dark scalloped yearling pigeon was too fast ahead of the entire pack of 10,910 Libourne pigeons. He thus takes the national victory among the yearlings from 5,860 pigeons and confirms his feathered status after he already flew 3rd nationally at Agen this year. With this excellent performance, he will more than earn the title of national ace pigeon yearling to his credit. He is a son of the "Quatro 8" on his father's side, who can show great long distance results himself, but has already proven his breeding value as father of the "Limo 301", who not only flew 1st on Tours but also topped the long distance. His mother is a granddaughter of the national winner Narbonne with Marc and Gerard Santens from Oudenaarde and the bloodlines of the pigeons of Eric Honoré from Snellegem.

Performing at a high level, it is simply baked into the DNA of the Pollin pigeons. Yet another proof is provided by "Brutus", a full brother of "Montauban II" became 1st Olympiad pigeon Marathon 2022 and also shone with glorious titles such as 4th National ace pigeon KBDB marathon '19 - 15th National ace pigeon KBDB marathon '20

The Pollin pigeons are known for their "grinta", their unlimited perseverance. Dutch champion Gerard Koopman had seen that too. He brought in the golden Pollin blood and successfully played their assets on the OLR flights, among others. 
For example, national St Vincent winner "Bruce" was grandfather to 9th place OLR Pattaya and topper "Coby". "Coby" won 1st Dries-Bruck 17,461d. - 1st Sourdun 5,475d. (fastest of 12,000d.) - 1st Sens 1,290d. 
Also from the line of national Libourne winner "Joe", Gerard Koopman is super satisfied as 3rd prize final flight OLR SAMDPR and 8th prize OLR Pattaya Thailand!

"Rock you like a hurricane"...a well-known song by German hard rock band "Scorpions" Geert transformed into "Racing like a Hurricane". And indeed like a hurricane they have blown down the competition and are shining as a team on the very top stage of the KBDB national championship annuals. The "Scorpion" team consists of

Not only the yearlings performed top. The team of old pigeons also showed its best side. In their favourite field, the middle distance, they won 2nd place in the national KBDB championship. This title was achieved thanks to the sublime performance of 6 old pigeons, 2 of which were from the year 2016! These 2 toppers have now been given a place in the breeding loft

 

Care ? Just keep it simple
And yet the real toppers are thought to have some secrets or panaceas to achieve such results. Not so with the Pollin's. When we polled cautiously about the care then this was simply explained. In the lofts, ventilation is never 'played with' (loft is not equipped for it either). The lofts are airy and spacious and are cleaned basic. Marc is already a day older and there is some wear and tear on the bodywork. This makes it all just a little less tight, but the results remain top notch. With the youngsters, little cleaning is still done and the dry cleaning method is used instead. A few big cleanings a year and that's it. Even feeding a 90-headed widower team that has to be basketed almost every day this season can hardly be individualised. The pigeons can always feed themselves with a wide variety of Versele-Laga traditional mixtures. They pick out what they like or what their bodies need. Daily Kaucabam in the drinking bowl ensures healthy intestinal flora. The vet (Wim Boddaert) is consulted a few times, but they prefer to stay away from that too, without being blind to ailments that need to be addressed.
