Rudy Denies from Sint-Joris-Weert wins 1st Ace Pigeon Golden As Fond Herbots Championship 2024

During last season we already visited Patrick Draye and Rudy Denies in Sint Joris Weert in Brabant. Rudy plays here in the parental lofts of Patrick Draye's father where real top results have always been achieved since I have known this colony. They had a top season on all fronts but especially the long distance flights which will be the main goal here in the coming years was fantastic. Especially thanks to topper "De Wilfried" who won 5 pure first prizes in the club on the long distance has done his bit. "De Wilfried" became the 1st Ace Pigeon Golden As Fond in our Herbots Championship with 4 prizes per 100. In addition, there were of course other toppers that we would like to introduce to you in this article.
A tough decision was made for the 2025 season, the parental lofts of Patrick's father were worn out. There was thought and drawing, which resulted in all the lofts being demolished and a new loft being built in the same place with a bit more space to put some more racing pigeons because they only had 5 old widowers last season and a bit more space for young pigeons. This was mainly because good friends of the house Erik Limbourg (2nd round) and Geert De Clercq (30 young pigeons) will be tested here for free. That is why the focus will be a bit more on the young pigeons, but making new plans and thinking about whether it can be done even better is what a pigeon fancier likes to do most of all before the racing season.

Best results 2024
There are only 5 old widowers in this racing team, Patrick is always very strict in terms of selection. They have to fly early and show up regularly or there won't be room for you here. The 5 old cocks flew a Momignies at the beginning of the season, usually this is seen as training, but all 5 of them placed nicely at the front with one real leading pigeon. They have to show from the start that they are okay, otherwise we feel they will not compete at further distances in the long distance.

Both with cocks and hens but on classic widowhood
Here we play with a racing team consisting of cocks and hens but both groups have partners who stay at home. Due to the situation with the new loft, the widowers were coupled for 3 weeks in the winter period and were allowed to brood for 8 days. For the hens they choose a different option and they are coupled at the end of March and are then allowed to brood rotten. In this way they are on widowhood towards the middle distance by the end of April. The widowers are coupled for another 5 days at the beginning of April when they plan to start the weekend after that so that the system of flying and showing hens is in place.
It is all new for our pigeons but 3 of our best old pigeons were sitting under each other in their old loft. Now in the new loft they have taken up these positions again with more boxes available and our favourite “De Wilfried” also took his same place. So you can see how important it is for a cock to find a box.
Due to the new adjustments to the loft and aviaries that still had to be placed at the front, the pigeons started training a little later than usual. But that is not a problem for us, we remain calm about this and the intention is to start with the hens here on April 5 and the week after with the cocks.
We choose to let our pigeons train usually once a day. Only towards the long distance season can that pace be increased to twice a day. On the day of basketing, only the widowers train, the hens never. Towards the end of the season, we then choose to give our pigeons more rest at home. They have already flown so much that training at home sometimes does more harm than good.
At basketing the partners are always shown, the cocks get their hens for a few minutes and the hens get their cocks for 15 to 20 minutes. After the flight they are allowed to go to their partners when most pigeons are home, here the hens of the widowers leave in the evening and the cocks of the hens always stay with them at night and are separated on Sunday morning.
In terms of nutrition the pigeons are given the light mixture Beyers Vandenabeele in the beginning (even if they have one week of rest they get this for a full week). They are fed with Aidi Long Distance and when they come home they get Beyers Vandenabeele again. The day after we use the Detox mixture to clean the pigeons again. In the winter period we always use Aidi Winter / Rest.
What we give as extra products during the week are Recupfly and Hepasan from Probelfly. Furthermore, several products are given from Schroeder Tollisan, including Tolyamin Forte and Nano Tolyamin. The pigeons are given a pill against tricho every 14 days, especially on the long distance because of the multiple nights in the basket. They were treated twice for the airways, the first time before Tulle in June and now the week before Bourges. The day after returning home, they are given Probac 1000 over the food together with Herbochol or Hepasan.
In terms of vaccinations, we have cured all our pigeons against paratyphoid in October and the breeding pigeons were vaccinated afterwards, while the racing pigeons only receive this vaccination in February. They are also vaccinated against paramyxo and smallpox in the spring. We give the young pigeons 2x Paramyxo Rota and then another vaccination against smallpox.
