Ype Hemstra is considered the greatest branch of the legendary Goed Grijs dynasty. With several direct offspring from this famous line, Hemstra has a genetic base of exceptional quality that continues to perform at the highest level year after year.
What also makes Ype special is his strategic approach. Every week, he literally bets on two horses. On the one hand, there is the loft in Buitenpost, where loft manager Dirk Jelle Drost is in charge of the day-to-day management. On the other hand, there is the loft in Sint Jansklooster, where Henri van der Linde sets the course and determines the sporting strategy. Two lofts, two playing styles, but one and the same rock-solid foundation.
“Nieuw Goed Grijs”
1st National Ace Pigeon Middle Distance NPO 2023
The absolute star of the Hemstra loft is without a doubt “Nieuw Goed Grijs” (NL22-8018685). The best middle distance pigeon in the Netherlands in 2023, awarded the title of 1st National Ace Pigeon Middle Distance (NPO).
The name says it all. “Nieuw Goed Grijs” is a pure inbred product of the iconic “Goed Grijs” from the Leideman Brothers. This exceptional hen showed her class at Hok Hemstra in Sint Jansklooster, confirming that the Goed Grijs line still belongs to the absolute world elite.
Her list of achievements speaks for itself:

- 1st Arlon – 1,039 pigeons
- 6th Provincial Etroeungt – 14,071 pigeons
- 9th NPO Châlons – 6,112 pigeons
- 49th NPO Dizy-le-Gros – 5,029 pigeons
- 50th NPO Sourdun – 5,703 pigeons
With these performances, “Nieuw Goed Grijs” has definitely written itself into the history books.

The foundation: strong lines and professional support
In addition to his sporting ambitions, Ype Hemstra is also active in the pigeon trade. He understands better than anyone that keeping a colony of top pigeons in top form is not something you can do alone. That is why Dirk Jelle Drost was recruited as the permanent loft caretaker in Buitenpost.
