‘Brieftauben-Zumdiek’ are the owners of the most impressive ‘Van den Bulck’ collection

The German loft "Brieftauben-Zumdiek" from Harsewinkel consists of the two brothers Rolf and Jürgen Zumdiek. The pigeon racing is done under the name "Team Zumdiek" in the RV Warendorf of the regional association 416 Ems-Werse on the south-east direction. The brothers were born into pigeon sport, as their father Bernhard Zumdiek was already very successful in racing pigeons at a high level. Already in the 1960s he was very good friends with Piet de Weerd and even then the best pigeons found their way to Harsewinkel. Already in the early 1970s the first original Janssen Arendonk pigeons were introduced and the name "Zumdiek" was known far beyond the borders of Germany as one of the best branch lofts of the Janssen Arendonk brothers. Following many enquiries and offers, it was decided in 2019 that the entire Janssen stock would be sold.  For Rolf and Jürgen it was clear that a "total sale of the Janssen pigeons" should only take place via Herbots in Belgium, because with the Herbots family there has already been a good and trusting relationship for many years... between both families the "word" and the "handshake" still counts, which is no longer common with many nowadays!

Zumdiek... Home Of The Best Sprint Pigeons

Rolf and Jürgen Zumdiek can be described as real "pigeon maniacs". Only the best is good enough for them.
Since 2018, no expense or effort has been spared to home the current best pigeons on the loft.

In 2018, 2019 and 2020, young pigeons were acquired from the best pigeons of Dirk Van den Bulck and Flanders Collection. In 2019 and 2020 even a complete round was acquired from the breeding pairs of Dirk Van den Bulck. A very hard selection followed, so that only the best could get a place on the breeding loft of Rolf and Jürgen. Today they own one of the most impressive collections of Dirk Van den Bulck pigeons worldwide. Several children each from the famous pigeons like "Kittel" 1st National Ace KBDB, "Greipel" 6th National Ace KBDB, "The Miracle" 7th National Ace KBDB, "The Pidcock" 6th National Ace KBDB as well as "Olympic Kittel", "Kitan", "Goede Rode" ... etc.
At the moment they offer 6 superb youngsters from the ‘Van den Bulck’ strains in an online auction, we will introduce some further on in this article. 

In 2020 Rolf and Jürgen Zumdiek were able to buy pigeons directly from Günter Prange in Meppen. Günter Prange, probably the best loft in Germany, made it possible for Rolf and Jürgen to select young pigeons from the "best" of his loft. Thus, several children of the famous "Der 520" with 7x 1st prize, various grandchildren of "Der Ringlose" as well as the new superstar "Der 1037" 1st World Best Pigeon FCI and 1st Olympic Pigeon Germany with 3x 1st prize, changed to the breeding loft of the Zumdieks.

But also in 2021 further investments followed. Several top pigeons will enhance the breeding loft again in the breeding year 2022:

From Herbots several children from "Olympic Jules" 1st National Ace KBDB YL 2018 + 1st Olympic Ace KBDB YL 2019 as well as from "Olympic Rico" 1st National Ace KBDB YB 2020 will be introduced. From PIPA-Breeding several kids from "Best Kittel" 1st National Ace KBDB 2017, "Best Kittel II" 1st National Ace KBDB 2020 as well as from "Daniel" 1st National Ace KBDB 2019 will find their way to Harsewinkel.

Pigeons, selection, training

In the old pigeons, only males are being played with at the moment. About 30 widowers are used. About 100 young pigeons are weaned for our own needs, so that we can start with about 80 young pigeons on the flights. The breeding stock comprises 30 pairs.

After the youngsters travel, they are separated immediately and the young males move to the widowers' loft. Selection is done by hand selection and then by pedigree.

All racing pigeons, widowers as well as youngsters, train once a day in the morning. The widowers from 07.15 hrs to 08.15 hrs and then the youngsters from 08.30 hrs to approx. 10.00 hrs. About 10 days before the first pre-flying the widowers are mated and before the females lay their eggs the males are pre-trained about 4 times to 25 km. During the season no more training flights take place, the birds then only fly at the house.

The young pigeons are well prepared for the young flight. There are 8-10 private training flights: 1x 5 km, 1x 10 km and then to 25 km. Then they are used in the cabin express of the RV.

Food and care

The breeding pigeons as well as the young pigeons receive the feed Premium Powe from Vanrobaeys. Breeding 182. The racing pigeons receive Grandprix from Beyers Prange, Koopman ALL IN ONE as well as a cleansing diet mixture. The racing pigeons receive supplementary products from the company Vet. Schröder-Tollisan as well as from the veterinarian Dr. Matthias Warzecha.

The racing pigeons are examined by Dr. Warzecha before the season and any treatment is only carried out on the instructions of Dr. Warzecha. During the season, intervention only takes place if the performance decreases and the pigeons do not train so well at the house.

All old pigeons are vaccinated against Paramycxo-Herpes -Adeno in autumn. The youngsters receive this vaccination at weaning and 2-3 weeks later they are vaccinated again against Paramycxo-Rota. Previously we had to fight with the young bird disease every year. In 2020 we have already proceeded in this way and our young pigeons have been spared from it.

Expectations 2021

Due to the total sale in 2019 we have to build up a new "team". Our young pigeons flew splendidly in the 2020 season. They were played from the perch, sexes were not separated, there was no darkening and no exposure. They were more than able to keep up with the youngsters of the young pigeon specialists. Once again it was shown that quality, health and the good care prevail. The following results could be achieved:
