Widowers

The system of the widowers is such that the cocks do not come together during the winter period and are allowed to moult properly. At the end of February I couple them for the first time and let them brood for 10 days. Afterwards they come together again when I want to start the season for a week. Then I can drive with the cocks every day and they know widowhood inside out by the end of the ride. The pigeons do not get to see a hen here on the speed flights and middle distance when they are basketed. I prefer to keep the sharpness and motivation a bit in reserve for the long distance flights. Now they got to see the hen for an hour and a half when they were basketed for Cahors, when they return home from the long distance flights they are allowed to stay together either until the evening or the next morning. I also want to give latecomers the chance to see their hen, even if it is only for a shorter period.

The pigeons train here towards the middle distance flights at least 2x per day, I like to lay a good foundation for the heavier work. Now with the very warm temperatures I did not let the pigeons train in the evening and they only came outside once per day.

The pigeons get a variation of Vandenabeele Beyers together with Aidi (Vliegmix 2 and Long Distance) and is mixed and fed according to my own feeling. As an extra I add corn to this, which is important because of the high distance of flights and the number of kilometers that our pigeons fly. Before the racing season the racing pigeons were purified against tricho and the airways and for tricho I maintain this with trichovit from Raf Herbots or work individually with a pill per pigeon. I try to alternate in the area of ​​tricho during the season and do this every 4 to 5 weeks according to my own feeling.
