Frederik De Wolf (Oudegem) wins 1st and 2nd Prov. Limoges East Flanders against 1,703 yearlings

Oudegem - Frederik De Wolf delivered an impressive performance by taking first and second place in the provincial race from Limoges in East Flanders. With his pigeons BE23-4094167 and BE23-4094162, he managed to leave the competition behind and emerge victorious against 1,703 yearlings in the province. At national level, this success translated into 6th and 8th place against 6,838 yearlings.

In addition, Frederik clocked 4th place with BE20-4214172 in the provincial Limoges race against 1,787 old birds, resulting in 23rd place nationally against 6,889 old birds. This makes three early pigeons nationally, which is a top performance.

A Succesful Season

Frederik talks enthusiastically about his successful season: "We started the season with 25 couples on total widowhood. Around New Year, the pairs were formed and raised a pair of youngsters. They were then separated and put on widowhood, after which the training regime was stepped up."

In early April, training started and the speed and middle distance flights were completed with an average prize percentage of 50% per trio. "Once the big middle distance started, the results went even more crescendo," Frederik said. This led to 2nd place provincial Vierzon, 5th place national zone Bourges, 8th place provincial Sancoins and now first and second place provincial Limoges yearlings and 4th place provincial old birds.

Winners with Good Genes

The winning pigeon (BE23-4094167) is a half-sister to the 2nd national Chateauroux 2020 (father's side) and has previously flown 12th Nat.Z at Tulle and 43rd at Vierzon against 2,251b. The second provincial (BE23-4094162) is out of the nest brother of the mother of the first provincial and was paired with stock hen "Magda" (grandmother of the 1st Nat. Libourne). The full brothers also flew top at Sancoins and Argenton the week before, which lives up to the saying "the apple does not fall far from the tree".

Limoges Performances

Fourteen hens were basketed for Limoges, including seven yearlings and seven old birds. Despite the limited number, Frederik managed to leave the East Flanders convoy behind. The first and second provincial (6th and 8th national) are two hens that flew Toury several times as a youngster but no national races. Both hens are grandchildren of the 2021 provincial ace heavy middle distance pigeon and the 2020 2nd provincial ace All-round pigeon - Gino Clicque / Eric Vermander Origin.

The Way to the Top

The system of the hens is quite simple. They sit in the loft on chapels with sloping grates to prevent mating among themselves. They train once a day without flag, at least 20 to 30 minutes, which increased to an hour in the last two weeks. After training, they are fed "full feed" followed by extra grit and minerals (Aidi condition plus mineral). Feeding consists mainly of "Aidi" mixtures, with a diet of 90% Girl Power mixture during the week and Mix 3 after the flight, and Mix 1 on Sunday.

Results 2024

The results speak for themselves with top rankings in several races including Vierzon, Bourges, Sancoins, Argenton, Tulle and now Limoges. These results demonstrate the consistency and high standard of Frederik's pigeons, confirming his position as a top pigeon fancier in East Flanders.
