Gebr. Homma (Steggerda-NL)Striving for the absolute summit

With pride, Ydo and Elco Homma , better known as Gebr. Homma , can look back on a series of impressive achievements in pigeon racing. The story of Gebr. Homma started in Steggerda in 2006. What started as a shared hobby soon grew into a great passion. In 2008, the first big step was taken with the purchase of pigeons from Arie Dijkstra, including a brother and son of the legendary ‘Okidoki’. One of these cocks, ‘Maldini’, became a stock pigeon of great value to their loft. In the following years, the base was further strengthened with excellent pigeons from fanciers such as Hans & Evert-Jan Eijerkamp, C. & G. Koopman, Marco Zandvoort, and Arnold Paalman. Especially the lines of Leo Heremans and Gebr. van den Brande brought new successes.

 

Top results in recent years

With more than a decade of successes, the Gebr. Homma have achieved numerous victories. Some of these unique achievements include:

  • 1st Sittard against 16,803 pigeons (2014)
  • 1st Nat. Morlincourt S4 against 11,985 pigeons (2016)
  • 1st NPO Troyes against 7,939 pigeons (2018)
  • 1st Chimay against 28,842 pigeons (2021)
  • 1st Chalons & Champagne against 6,112 pigeons (2023)
  • 1st Boxmeer against 12,268 pigeons (2024)
  • 2nd NPO Sens against 8,211 pigeons (2020)
  • 3rd Provincial Etroeungt against 4,645 pigeons (2022)

The foundation pair and their descendants

Gebr. Homma's current successes are largely due to their foundation pair: ‘Dakar’ and ‘Daughter Ace Noyon’ from Gebr. van den Brande. In 2018, ‘Dakar’ joined the lofts in Steggerda, on which he would later grow to become the number one breeding cock. This pair has produced some phenomenal offspring, including ‘Olympic Luna’, who was named 1st Olympiad pigeon category Yearlings in Bucharest in 2023. Other descendants of ‘Dakar’ have also produced exceptional performances, such as:

  • ‘Jade’ (daughter Dakar): 1st Heusden-Zolder against 10,334 pigeons and 1st Duffel against 9,717 pigeons.
  • ‘Milou’ (daughter Dakar): 1st Arlon against 402 pigeons and 2nd Duiven against 1,487 pigeons.
  • ‘Olympic Luna’:1st Olympiad pigeon yearling Bucharest ‘22 , 1st Chimay against 14,777 pigeons ( and fastest of 28839 pigeons), 1st Tongeren against 639 pigeons, 5th Kalkar 5122 pigeons and 7th Chalons 5617 pigeons
  • ‘Half-sister Olympic Luna’: 3rd Chimay against 14,377 pigeons and 7th Boxtel against 1,729 pigeons.
  • ‘Sister Olympic Luna’: 1st Burdinne against 198 pigeons and 9th Kalkar against 5,122 pigeons.

 

The theft

At the end of 2021, Gebr. Homma's loft was hit by a cowardly theft, in which all racing and breeding hens were stolen. Despite this severe setback, Ydo and Elco managed to get back on track in 2022. With a lot of support from Hans & Evert-Jan Eijerkamp and many friends, including a full round of pigeons from Team van Oss, they managed to return to top level in a short period of time. This proves not only their willpower , but also their exceptional skill in pigeon racing.

 

Results 2023-2024

After a period of intensive efforts, they managed to win no less than five 1st prizes in Division11 Friesland ‘96 in 2023 and 2024. These results confirm their place at the top of Dutch pigeon racing.
