Pigeon Bids van der Wegen Antoon (†) and Luci ends with 245,450€ for 113 pigeons (an average of 2,172€)

Yesterday the international pigeon world looked at final of the total sale of Antoon (†) and Luci van der Wegen (Steenbergen). Thanks to the professional care of the Herbots family a very last chance was offered to invest in this superior marathon strain. How harsh this must sound, but it was the definitive end of the noble long distance strain van der Wegen, it was the very last chance and now never again ! 
After many hours of bidding (on some of the pigeons it took more than 2 hours bidding) everybody could look back with a lot of satisfaction to an unique auction. This is how the 113 van der Wegen pigeons were sold for a total amount of 245,450€ or 2,172€ average.
The pigeons were sold to no less than 14 different countries. 

As mentioned in the auction brochures Luci insisted to give a valuable trophy, which was won by Antoon and Luci themselves and has for them a very huge emotional value, to the buyers of the most expensive pigeon of each auction part and to the buyer of the most pigeons out of all auction parts together. The trophies go to : 

• Buyer of the most pigeons = Angrybird (USA) 17 pigeons.
• Most expensive in part 1  = Angrybird (USA) €10 000 for lot 13
• Most expensive in part 2   = Angrybird (USA) €4 250 for lot 7
• Most expensive in part 3  = Ertugrul bey (RO) €9 500 for lot 6
• Most expensive in part 4  = Roman Claudiu (RO) €9 000 for lot 9
• Most expensive in part 5  = Angrybird (USA) €4 500 for lot 13
• Most expensive in part 6  = Doufke89 (NL) €3 500 for lot 10

And…we were present when Luci took the hand of Jo Herbots and said with a trembling voice… “Jo…you are the most qualified person to make Antoon’s and my wish come true and that is to spread out the van der Wegen strain worldwid for one last time. Would you do that…”

Well, Antoon and Luci…the Herbots family granted your last ‘pigeon wish’ with all respect.
