SG Steffl – A (inter)national German top loft

The loft of German champions Steffl (SG Steffl) is located in the rural village of Künzelsau in southern Germany. The members of SG Steffl are Franz (65 years old), Martin (44 years old), Hannes (11 years old), and Jan (9 years old). For about 20 years, SG Steffl has been among the top tiers of German pigeon racing. They have also made a name for themselves internationally, particularly through their outstanding successes in One Loft Races and their nominations for various Olympiads. We let Martin speak: “The cornerstone of our success at the regional and national level is an excellent and diverse breeding base. This is formed by the old Janssen pigeons, which since 1999 have come from successful lofts in Germany. Other stock pigeons include "Scalp Zillekens" from Gerd Zillekens, a daughter of "DE GUST" from Ulrich Lemmens, as well as the top breeders "NEYMAR" and "GOMEZ," bred in our own loft. This solid foundation was supplemented with pigeons from top international lofts such as Dirk van den Bulck (via Flanders Collection) and Willem de Bruijn from the Netherlands, and in recent years also regularly from the Eijerkamp family.

- "NEYMAR JUNIOR" is a direct son of top breeder NEYMAR from 2012. He is the sire of the 1st Ace Pigeon of Germany 2024 and the 2nd Ace Pigeon (Regional Association) 2025, and so on.

The goal is to breed pigeons that consistently achieve top results in the German all-around racing program, which involves weekly distances of 150 to 600 km. This is also the secret behind the excellent performance of German pigeons in the OLR program: they must deliver top performances week after week, for 12, 13, or even 14 consecutive weekends. If they miss a week or don't win a prize, they could miss out on the championship. When pairing pigeons, great emphasis is placed on good conformation and a highly pigmented eye. All our top pigeons have consistently possessed excellent conformation, and the top breeders also possess sublime eye pigmentation. This breeding method has been in use here since 2001, so for 25 years. Incidentally, the Steffl combination has won the RV Championship (Regional Association) every year since 2001, with only two exceptions. The RV consists of approximately 35 racing lofts.

The racing system is completely widowhood. Once basketing is complete, the loft is empty. All pigeons are basketed every week. The season begins with approximately 65 cocks and 65 hens. Over the past two years, they have achieved many excellent results.
