Streel Freddy & Edmond (Vreren) are the marathon distance specialists

In the east of the country, we find ourselves in a sub-municipality of Tongeren, Vreren. Freddy & Edmond Streel, who have been competing in the extreme long-distance for decades, live in this sub-municipality. They have one major drawback: their location isn't ideal for racing early. If they do manage to do so, they need exceptionally strong pigeons, which I also encountered during my first visit to this colony, and which displayed top-quality pigeons.

To introduce them, we'll focus on the last two editions of Barcelona.

But you could see these results coming because they flew a tough Narbonne race in 2023, where they took home both gold and silver in Limburg with the yearlings, and where their best pigeon, "King Barca," was the second to arrive. Sadly, his loft mate passed away the following year after he returned home from Barcelona.

Stock Building

Let's go back to their national victory from Narbonne. Their top racer "Dennis" delivered a superb performance by winning 1st National Narbonne against 4,921 pigeons. This top-class cock was bred from a brother of "Pantani," who himself won 1st Provincial Perpignan and was paired here with a pigeon from Albert Willems. This was a daughter of "De St. Vincent," who became 2nd National Ace Pigeon Long Distance KBDB in 1993. Dennis's offspring had a significant impact on this colony and subsequently led to some great successes.

They also invested in pigeons from Luc Herbots and the Desbuquois brothers. They always sought out lofts that had performed well for many years, hoping to introduce pigeons from a strong breeding line.

In 2021, they achieved another top result from Narbonne, winning 3rd National against 5,805 pigeons. This winner was a great-grandchild of "Dennis."

From then on, they focused on crossbreeding their old base with pigeons from Luc Herbots and the Desbuquois brothers. This proved very successful, and results soon followed. The best hen is "Zephira 313" from Luc Herbots. This hen is the mother of the 1st Provincial Barcelona 2025 for Theo Weytjens and was also the mother of the 1st Provincial Narbonne against 637 pigeons in 2023. She has also become the grandmother of "271/22," who flew for Albert & Michel Willems in Eisden, Limburg, and where they won 7th National Barcelona against 5,819 pigeons in 2025. This pigeon had previously also won 44th National Narbonne against 6,100 pigeons.

“King Barca” BE 22-5028338 

This top bird won 2nd Provincial Narbonne behind a loft mate and then won 75th and 177th National Barcelona in 2024 and 2025. This champion never missed a prize in the extreme long distance and was bred from a cross between Luc Herbots and the Desbuquois brothers. Luc's pigeons are performing fantastically here, and his older brother, "King Rhone," was another top bird, winning two TOP 100 National prizes in the extreme long distance. In this auction, you'll find eight brothers and sisters from this pairing in part 1!

In two years' time, "King Barca" became the 12th best pigeon in Belgium to win two early prizes in this grueling race, making him a true gem in the hand.

This top-class cock was the first to arrive in Barcelona in 2024 and won 65th National against 6,310 pigeons. His sire is another grandson of "Dennis," 1st National Narbonne, and his dam is another hen from Luc Herbots.
