The famous “Chipo” breeding line of Benny Steveninck (B) impressed also in 2020

Nothing but smiling faces at Ekelbeke No 127 in Hamme. Despite 3 national victories and more than 20 provincial victories, the Steveninck team is always very motivated to push their athletes to the limit. 

The "corona" virus, like by everyone else, made some changes to the preparation of the season but Benny managed perfectly to bring his 43 widowers (13 old for the long distance and 30 yearbirds for the great middle distance) and 32 hens (7 old and the rest yearbird ladies) to the start of the somewhat "special" season. 

"Limo" B18-4149964"... the new leader.

What a stunner ... the perfect widower who guaranteed his favourite flight must be Limoges because he shone on this last season with 2nd National against 10,319b. and 13th National against 15,981b. For his other achievements we would like to refer to the attached picture.

The father of "Limo" is "Lucky 14" (B12-4048014). No ordinary as a race bird (see picture) and born out of that wonderful "Chipo" line.

The mother of "Limo" is "B14-6241226" (original Dirk Van Dyck) and by Benny besides mother of "Limo" also mother of 2nd Nat. Argenton 18,391b. - 12th Nat. Chateauroux 12,846b. - 13th Nat. Limoges 15,981b. - 17th Nat. Argenton 14,496b. - 25th Nat Montluçon 10,753d. ! Seldom seen I would say

No rankings of national KBDB championships where the name Steveninck is not mentioned. The "938" a grandson of "Father Sun" (father of 1st Nat. ace KBDB young) and grandson of "Sister Gueret" won last season:

Hen "922" (B18-4149922) has “winning top prizes” in her DNA.

Back a granddaughter of "Chihaut 98" and then one knows perfectly which class is spoken about. Won last season: 1st club Vierzon 922b. (21st prov. 7.838d.) - 1st club Issoudun 228b. (62nd Nat. 10,603b.) - 13th prov. Argenton 3,695b. (178th Nat. 16,762b.) - 16th prov. La Souterraine 2,020b. (150th Nat. 9,469b.) - 41st prov. Gueret 1,809b. (203rd Nat. 7,175b.) - 114th prov. Chateauroux 4,800b. (1,108th Nat. 20,800b.) . In 2019 "922" also shone with 49th Nat. Argenton 5,158b. 

A little bit of history. 

The Steveninck colony knew his start in 1998…pigeon sport wasn’t a strange thing to Benny as also father Raymond was a driven pigeon fancier. When Benny married his lovely wife Carine, he was already racing for several years in tandem with his father. Carine felt that he was spending too much time as his parental house on the lofts and suggested to start racing pigeons from their own garden. Said and done and a miracle later Carine was hit by the pigeon germ as well and became a very driven and enthusiastic fancier. Benny, who worked for years as a train driver for our National rail roads had very irregular working hours and had to work also very often by night. Without the help of Carine the colony wouldn’t be what it is now. Benny has retired since a few years now and can fully concentrate on his favourite waste of time : pigeon sport ! 

The phenomenon “Chipo”!

Benny decided at the contrary to many other fanciers who start of first on the short distance races to go immediately onto the middle distance races. He went to visit the West-Flemish top fancier Willy Van Houtte from Wevelgem and put about 10 youngsters in his basket. Benny and Carine had rather quick success with these Van Houtte-pigeons and during the coming years he bought dozen other pigeons from this loft. These Van Houtte-pigeons got the reinforcement of other different strains. 

They had their fair share of prizes but everything started to snowball in 2003 when the top pigeon ‘Chipo’ was born. This fantastic cock won as a youngster 1st Dourdan 571 b.,1st  Dourdan 375b., 2nd Dourdan 1,316b., 9th  Dourdan 1,268b., 9th  Dourdan 339b., 10th Dourdan 964b. and so on…and made it to 1st Provincial Ace bird East-Flanders. This top bird is at fathers’ side a pigeon from Sylvain Verstraete  x a daughter out of the 1st Nat. La Souterraine (Eddy Leutenez)... on mothers’ side it is a Jozef Vandamme- Dendermonde. Many professional buyers made an offer to be able to put his golden cock in their basket. Benny declined resolute every offer and later that season he basketed ‘Chipo’ again. A golden move apparently as also as a year bird he showed his class! He won a.o. 1st Dourdan 614b., 1st Dourdan 213b., 1st Dourdan 101b., 41st  Bourges 2,306., 17th  Dourdan 848b., 14th  Dourdan 425b., 24th  Dourdan 555b., and so on…Every normal fancier would send this top pigeon after two successful season to their breeding loft, but not Benny. We write the year 2005 and ‘Chipo’ was there again  3rd Dourdan 217b., 7th  Toury 427b., 5th  Dourdan 194b., 9th  Noyon 199b., and so on. In the meantime offspring of this top pigeon were to be found at the loft and seemed that his sons could win prizes of honour as well. More than once they made it home before their father and that’s why Benny finally decided to put him on the breeding loft. Coupled to B03-4328989 (a pure Michel Hautekiet- hen) they became the parents of many top pigeons who dominated the national pigeon sport the past few years !
