Bram ten Klei and his stock pair

15 Sep 2025

Bram ten Klei will not soon forget the month of August 2025. With consecutive flights from Quievrain (249 km), Niergnies (289 km), Duffel (161 km), Morlincourt-Noyon (349 km) and Saint-Soupplets (413 km), he demonstrated that his colony was in top form.

No door game, but together naturally

It is striking that Bram did not play his youngsters on the door, but simply left them together. Because he flies exclusively with old hens, most of the young cocks he bred went to 1-loft races and other fanciers. This left only 15 young cocks and about 50 young hens for the races.

Training and care

The foundation for success was laid during preparation. The youngsters were kept in darkness until the longest day and from 1 August onwards, they were given supplementary lighting every day from 5.30 a.m. to 10.30 p.m. In addition, Bram took them on numerous trips of approximately 20 kilometres, and even during the season, there was a weekly training trip.

This approach paid off: the extra light increased their hormones and motivation. Almost all of the remaining cocks found a partner, and boxes and straw in the loft provided extra nesting opportunities. ‘On the day of basketing, I laid down straw, which they eagerly used to build nests. I think that played a big role in their motivation,’ says Bram.

In terms of care, nothing was left to chance. The pigeons were given daily supplements such as various mixes, Marien Minerals and peanuts. The feeding schedule was simple but effective: unlimited food in the evening, training in the morning and then a measured portion of feed.

Stock pair makes its mark

What was particularly striking in August were the performances of the youngsters from Bram's stock pair. Several youngsters won 1st prizes and top 10 rankings in large competitions.

  • NL25-401 even became 9th National Ace Pigeon.
  • NL25-402 finished as 8th best young bird sprint in the PIPA ranking.

This result is no coincidence: this stock pair is the result of a powerful fusion of two absolute top lines.

World-class bloodlines

This combination brings together the best genes from M.F.J. Krijger and the world-famous BLITZ line from A.J. Roording, thereby combining the very best of Dirk van den Bulck, Kittel, Goede Rode and Leo Heremans.

Paternal line  “De Krijger” (NL13-1089578)

This stock cock has already produced several sprint and middle distance aces. His line goes back to Leo Heremans (Jan line) with breeders such as B10-6146399 and NL12-1198898, both pure Heremans pigeons.

Maternal side  “Lady BLITZ” (NL21-1676507)

Daughter of the legendary BLITZ pair Roording. This line has produced generations of winners with countless 1st prizes and NPO victories. Grandfather is BE17-6168058 “Kannibaal Kittel”, grandson of the world-famous Kittel (Dirk van den Bulck). Grandmother is 15-6119677 ‘Hen BLITZ’, herself the mother of several NPO winners.

Exclusively for the Herbots family, Bram will offer a son from his stock pair in December. This young ace is a full brother of

  • 7th National Ace Pigeon Sprint 2024
  • 9th National Ace Pigeon Young Birds 2025

Brother of top performers
