Chris Van Weyenberghe from Tessenderlo wins 1,2 and 4 Provincial Argenton 923 yearlings

Last weekend at Argenton the pigeons had a hard time, especially the yearlings who did not fall well with head wind and heat, was the result for many. But for Chris Van Weyenberghe from Tessenderlo in Limburg, this did not count. He clocked 3 yearlings in 4 minutes and this was good for 1st, 2nd and 4th Provincial against 923 yearlings.

Only with hens

Chris has a racing team of 50 hens that stay in 2 aviaries during the day. They have not done winter breeding and were coupled for 3 days just before the season. Most of them are yearlings, so mating was not really an option. But the “chaos” system suits him and there are always other pigeons that are motivated for something we don't see.

The hens therefore train once a day and spend a whole day in the aviary, in the evening they can enter their sleeping loft where small boxes are provided. This ritual counts until Thursday, when all the hens are basketed and the small boxes are removed and larger breeding boxes are behind the others. The day of basketing is no longer trained. The cocks will sit on this and dishes will be placed everywhere on the floor. Every week here is different in terms of couplings and pairs, but I don't care. They can then stay together until the morning after and are then separated again, the cocks go to another loft and peace returns.

At the beginning of the year, the ladies were trained fairly quickly and firmly and were basketted at the beginning of April, there is little rest here. They will only fly a Soissons or Momignies between the national races.

In terms of nutrition, Chris completely uses Aidi's schedule ( Vliegmix 1, 2 and 3 ) and they get Vliegmix 1 on Sunday, Monday and Tuesday. On Wednesday it is flight mix 2, Thursday and the day of returning home it is flight mix 3 together with proteins on the feed after the flight.

For the medical story he regularly checks with Raf Herbots in Velm and the hens only received a tricho cure 5 days before the racing season. When they return home, they always receive Tolyamin Forte as a recuperation.
