Combinatie Van de Kooy (Roelofarendsveen-NL) continues building the road to the top

01 Oct 2026

The Comb. Van de Kooy  consists of brothers Jeroen and Mark Van de Kooy. Both have been passionate about pigeon racing since the early 1990s. For years, they each raced from their own locations in Roelofarendsveen. That changed last year; Jeroen was forced to move because all the houses on his street were being expropriated. He now lives on the same street as his brother Mark, and the brothers decided to join forces competitively starting this season, continuing as a partnership. Roelofarendsveen is located in the municipality of Kaag en Braassem, in the Dutch province of South Holland. Anyone familiar with pigeon racing in South Holland knows that the competition is exceptionally fierce. Every week, the partnership faces off against absolute top-tier racers such as Willem de Bruijn, Verkerk G & S, Combinatie Lin, and Combinatie Van Leeuwen, to name but a few. The province boasts an impressive number of strong fanciers and top-class lofts. To compete at this level, they have invested heavily in quality over the past few years. Their lofts now house direct pigeons and descendants from breeders such as Willem de Bruijn, Ton Wolvers (Willem de Bruijn bloodline), Ad Schaerlaeckens, Combinatie Van Leeuwen, Patagoon (Willem de Bruijn bloodline), Henk Scheffel, Jeroen Kok, Demely-Liliane, Antoon van de Burg, and Uncle Wim. The old birds are raced using the total widowhood system, while the young birds are raced using the sliding door system. A clear approach is also taken regarding nutrition. The pigeons are allowed to eat well, but they are not fed ad libitum (full hopper). The goal is to get them to the starting line in peak physical condition and looking their best. For shorter races, the week begins with Start Matador, followed by a switch to Vliegvoer Matador (Racing Mix). For longer distances, the regimen starts with Vlieg Matador and concludes with Turbo Matador.

National championships from 2024

The partnership's performances did not go unnoticed. From 2024 onwards, they achieved the following national rankings, among others:

  • 2nd Overall Best Loft (Unnominated) – Netherlands
  • 4th Overall Best Loft (Nominated) – Netherlands
  • 5th National Ace Pigeon Sprint – Netherlands
  • 5th Best Loft Middle Distance – Netherlands
  • 6th Overall Best Loft (Nominated) – Netherlands
  • 9th Best Overall Ace Pigeon – Netherlands
  • 11th Best Loft Sprint – Netherlands

An impressive track record that clearly demonstrates how *Combinatie Van de Kooy* is increasingly establishing itself among the sport's big names.
