Debacker Chris wins 1st Provincial Chateauroux 1,830 yearbirds

14 Jul 2026

The national race from Châteauroux attracted 5,004 old birds and 8,597 yearlings, which were released on Saturday at 7:15 a.m.
At the liberation site there was some high cloud cover and not a breath of wind.
During the first kilometres the pigeons had to contend with a light southerly wind, but it soon shifted to the northeast.
And to put it in cycling terms, now that we are right in the middle of the Tour de France period… it turned into a real leg-breaker, with the riders having to grip the drops of the handlebars to keep going.
In such weather conditions, only top-class pigeons in peak condition come to the fore.
Chris Debacker's racing team from Beveren-Leie certainly consists of pigeons that thrive in such demanding conditions, and it would not have surprised us if Chris had been watching for his pigeons with even more tension than usual.
Rightly so, because the dark chequered widower “Kasper” (BE25-3038090) topped the provincial result sheet and, besides being the fastest among 1,830 yearlings, he was also the fastest of all 2,951 West Flanders Châteauroux pigeons.
On the national level, “Kasper” won 5th National against 8,597 yearlings.

As of 14 July, according to the KBDB rankings, “Kasper” is also the best yearling pigeon in Belgium in middle-distance racing with 5 prize-winning performances.

Yet another victory that once again emphatically underlines the outstanding quality of Chris Debacker's pigeons.
