Diego Wouters (Wouters – Wolvers) OLR ambition built on proven performance lines
30 Jan 2026
During the racing season, Diego Wouters is responsible for the PR of the Wolvers – van 't Oever combination. Due to his busy work schedule in the healthcare sector, Diego is unable to practice pigeon racing on a fully independent basis. However, he does take an active role in breeding and caring for the pigeons that are used in various one-loft races (OLR). These one-loft races are played under different team names, including Team Wolvers – Wolf, Wolvers – van 't Oever, and Wouters – Wolvers. In close consultation with Ton Wolvers, pigeons are regularly exchanged between the lofts. In this way, targeted efforts are made to deliver increasingly better young pigeons for the loft races. Ton also regularly visits the lofts at Diego's home to monitor progress and make adjustments together where necessary. The OLR pigeons from this combination are built from proven international performance lines, with influences from Willem de Bruijn, Mike Ganus, Schmidt & Pau, Gebr. Herbots, Combinatie Lin, Diego Wouters, Jan Hooymans, and Team Van de Pasch, among others.
Performance and impact
The influence of these strong bloodlines is clearly visible in the results of Wolvers – van 't Oever. Particularly since the introduction of the lines from Willem de Bruijn, a clear increase in performance can be observed. In recent seasons, several impressive top rankings have been achieved in the sprint, middle distance, and one-day long distance races, with highlights at district, provincial, and even national level.
These pigeons also play a key role in the further development of the stock. Their offspring continue to excel generation after generation, forming a solid foundation for both current performance and future success.
Wolvers - van't Oever
The start of the partnership
In 2020, Ton Wolvers and Jan van 't Oever joined forces to compete together in one of the toughest and most competitive regions in the Netherlands: Division 5.
Ton Wolvers caught the pigeon virus at the age of eleven. Until he was sixteen, he mainly experimented, after which he started playing in combination with Dick van Seggelen, his son's ex-father-in-law. With pigeons from Axel Wolf, Willie van Beers, Peter de Mooy, and others, they achieved solid results in the program. Dick later joined Ton's team and built the current loft, but moved on after a while. For a year, the pigeons were cared for by Jiabin Lin, who then returned to his father. This left Ton without a permanent loft caretaker.
That situation changed when Jan van 't Oever got into conversation with Ton. What started as an introduction turned into a structural collaboration. Jan van 't Oever came into contact with pigeons at an early age through an uncle. In 1971, he kept his first pigeons in a small loft in the barn. Two years later, he became a member of PV De Oude Blauwband in Lisse, where he still lives today. He started with young pigeons, although that start was difficult. When he started working at the age of seventeen, he got a bigger loft in the garden and raced for some time in combination with his father Jan. After purchasing his own home in 1990, Jan competed independently for several years, but due to a busy family life and sporting activities, pigeons did not always come first. From 2004 onwards, he took the sport more seriously: better pigeons, more focus, and visible progress. However, his irregular working hours remained a hindrance, especially because he was unable to care for the pigeons in the morning. After undergoing surgery in 2008, Jan stopped playing sports and had more time for pigeon racing. From 2012 onwards, he formed a successful partnership with Frans van der Laan, who took care of the pigeons in the mornings. That period was marked by strong performances. In 2019, Frans had to stop due to health problems. In the same year, Jan heard that Ton Wolvers was looking for a loft caretaker. This led to Jan joining Ton on a permanent basis, laying the foundation for the current Wolvers–van 't Oever partnership. During the racing season, Diego Wouters will also join as the person responsible for PR.
