Geukens – Bauer (Paal) win 1st Provincial Sens 5,583 old and yearling pigeons

22 May 2026

Last week, the race from Sens was on the agenda for the province of Limburg; provincially, more than 5,500 pigeons entered the race, and the winning pigeon is a hen found at the Geukens – Bauer loft in Paal. Rene and Markus form a tandem and scored both gold and a very impressive series of results in this race, despite having only a few pigeons in the basket. The winning hen and the 2nd place pigeon are half-sisters and both descend from the same cock, which comes from Roger & Nick Thijs and can gradually be called a super breeder. The 3rd place pigeon was a grandchild of this super breeder and was already ranked 8th National Ace Pigeon Heavy Middle Distance Young Birds KBDB last year.

Sens Prov 2,713 old birds: 10,… 3/5

The racing team on total widowhood.

The racing team is flown here on total widowhood, and pigeons that miss too many races after a few weeks are no longer entered. At this moment, slightly more than 10 pigeons are still being raced. The best hens were paired with the best breeders during the winter period to get an idea of what they do as breeding pigeons. Afterwards, there is no further pairing between the racing pigeons; instead, they get to know each other during the season. The pigeons are kept in aviaries day and night as much as possible, as are the cocks. During the week, they see their nesting boxes very little. They can only go there during basketing and after returning home. The pigeons train once a day; the first group goes out at 10:00 AM, and around 11:00 AM it is the turn of the others to train. This year, the pigeons trained very well here, both in the spring and now in the season. If the pigeons have to spend 2 nights in the basket, I always let them train on Thursday morning so that they eat better on the day of basketing.

After Sens, the cocks are now participating in Melun, and the hens are participating in Bourges National. Before basketing, they are allowed in their nesting boxes for 5 to 10 minutes. After the race, they stay together until the next day, either in the morning or afternoon. In terms of feeding, the complete Aidi schedule is followed here.
