Guido Loockx from Tessenderlo wins 1st + 2nd Provincial Argenton 1,212 pigeons

The pigeons had a hard time in the national race from Argenton. Guido Loock is the winner of gold and silver against 1,212 old birds in the province of Limburg. There is a difference of 21 minutes between the two pigeons, so his first and so far best old pigeon of the season flies far ahead of the competition. In general, Guido delivered a top performance and brought his 49th provincial victory to Tessenderlo. On to the 50, who knows this year… Big kudos in advance and congratulations on such a career. In the first 4 pigeons are the 3 first nominated from Guido and they all have the line of Satan and Kai Mook. A bloodline that has really stood out in recent years and on which he will build his future.

The hens

Still the showpiece of the Loockx household, they were coupled at the beginning of January and some have raised youngsters from the breeders, others have simply brooded and some have had nothing besides what has been paired. After that they systematically came back outside, but he also has to see what he is doing about the major problems with birds of prey. It would be a shame to lose such a top pigeon, but unfortunately we all have a lot of problems with this.

The racing team was darkened until 4 weeks before Bourges and trained once a day, more training is not necessary and will not work because otherwise there is too little time. There is no training on the day of basketing and they just sit in the aviary as they do during the day. In the evening they can enter the resting pen and they are ready. When basketing they are simply chased in and they are taken in without motivation, the hens know this game through and through, so extra work and effort does not pay off according to Guido. The season is tough and just like last year I don't see myself driving the pigeons extra crazy in 35°C. When they return home, they all have a permanent partner and they stay together until the morning after.

The old racing team usually flies all national races with a Momignies or Soissons in between, what they will do after Argenton is not yet certain. It was tough and I won't decide that until Friday.

Care

After the season, the racing pigeons always get a full tank of Moulting mixture until their last pen has been changed, this will be somewhere around the turn of the year. Afterwards it is lighter food, during the season itself I use the Beyers Galaxy Sport and I only use Beyers Galaxy Energy for the last 2 days to which I add hempseed and peeled sunflower seeds. They can eat as much as they want and the bowl is emptied after each feeding.

When I get home and on Sunday I use Entrodex from Koehoorn, during the week itself I use condition powder and vitamineral from Mariën. In terms of tricho and airways, I generally have few problems with this and only intervene if necessary.
