Marc Vlaeminck (Ramsel) wins 1st Provincial Valence old birds

01 Jul 2025

Valence, it is a flight that Marc Vlaeminck from Ramsel is completely suited to, he has already achieved several top results here but in 2020 he won 1st National against 7,591 old pigeons. This with his super crack "Black Bliksem". Let it be 5 years later a son of that well-known "Black Bliksem" who may triumph again at Valence. His son is a joint breeding between Marc and Ronald Lodewijckx, because it is a joint breeding they are not allowed to rest on their laurels here and they must first prove themselves before they are referred to the breeding loft. With this, this 2-year-old cock has passed his first real exam very well.

The cocks are on widowhood and are allowed to raise a pair of youngsters in the winter, there will be no 2nd pairing afterwards, but a round of youngsters is already being bred from the best racers so that we can discover more quickly whether the best racers breed or not.

The pigeons came out earlier this year than usual because of slightly fewer problems with the birds of prey that are here much more in other years. I started letting them out in February and during the season they come out once a day.

The hen is always shown and for the heavier flights I always leave them together for 1 to 2 hours, that can't do any harm because they are in the basket for several nights anyway. When they come home it depends on how the flights were. If it is fast and smooth, then the hens also leave faster, if it is very heavy then I leave them with me until the evening. I don't leave them together until the next day because there are also other pigeons in the same loft that didn't fly that weekend.

I use Hoebrechts mixtures here, first a super diet mixture, then a sports mixture with some small seeds and towards basketing as much as possible a fatty mixture. The pigeons are provided with little medication here and I try to keep them as close to nature as possible. That is why I rarely treat them against tricho, but I have done so now because of the warm weather and the several nights in the basket in recent weeks.

Winner Valence

The winner of Valence only came home 3 weeks later last year at Agen and was badly injured. Because he was a son of the “Zwarte Bliksem” he got his chance again in 2025, he flew his prize well at Toury and was now allowed to go to Valence where he won the provincial victory. Now he can prepare himself for Marseille where he can perhaps shine just like his grandfather.
