10 Apr 2021
Niels Broeckx is the son to Jan and Marleen Broeckx. The family moved in 2007 from Baarle-Hertog to Oud-Turnhout and in Baarle-Hertog they already raced under the name Jan Broeckx so that had to change it to Niels Broeckx. Jan is at his turn the son to ‘Broeckx-Van Hees’ from Oud-Turnhout, also really good middle and long distance racers. Maybe it’s time to make a pedigree of the Broeckx family so everybody knows who is who and especially as the ladies of the house Maria Van Hees and Marleen Govaerts are also fully involved in pigeon racing. .
Jan Broeckx races already for over 25 years with pigeons whereof the last 10 years in Oud-Turnhout. He used to combine pigeon racing with his work in his bakery in Baarle-Hertog. In 2012 the bakery was sold and from then on both Jan and Marleen, who took care of the bakery shop, could concentrate fully on the pigeons. The consequence of this resulted immediately from 2012 with amazing results with the youngsters. These youngsters confirmed as year birds in 2013 by getting more than one super prize.
It kept on going crescendo year after year until they won, after winning a few national ace bird titles, the ultimate dream of many pigeon fanciers namely winning in 2017 the title of 1st Olympiad bird Cat. C with their ‘Olympic 306’ke’. She won ao.:

The season of 2021 will be started of with 120 racers and about 300 youngsters which are bred out of the 40 available breeding couples. The selection of the youngsters goes as follows after the racing season: the selection for the hens is done by the basket so all the young hens that remain after the season can stay, the cocks are reduced to about 30 which are going to be raced on the short distance races Quièvrain and Noyon.
From half of February the old and yearling pigeons can start training once a day around the loft. The youngsters can also come out each day and if everything goes well these will be trained as from the beginning of May.
Youngsters 2021
In a matter of food they fully trust the Beyers gamma. All old and yearling pigeons get from the 15th of February until the 1st of April depurative to chance from the 1st of April, when the races start, to the Vandenabeele mixtures from Beyers.
The youngsters get Beyers breeding until beginning of April and then the same thing as their older brothers and sisters the Vandenabeele mixture.
As extra’s they put their trust to the products of the Herbots range such as Brewers’ yeast (B.M.T.) – 4 Oils – Proteins (Pro-Recup) – and so on…
Before the season starts all pigeons get a cure with Dokamix during 10 days and also yellow drops are given during the season.
Also before the start of the season the old and yearling pigeons are being vaccinated against paramyxo and small pocks, the youngsters get an extra vaccination to it namely against herpes.
End of April a visit is being made to vet Raf Herbots from Velm and this is being repeated during the season.
Beyers Food
The hens system has changed, they used to remain outside in aviaries day and night. And now they stay in day and night as Jan experienced that the nights are still too cold to stay outside.
The biggest expectations for 2021 is with the widow cocks that are on Quièvrain. These did extremely well the past 2 years that they hope in Oud-Turnhout they’ll do this again in 2021.
The entire Herbots-team wishes it together with the Broeckx family…good luck !
The hens stay inside day and night now in their new boxes.
