Rigo Lenaers (Vliermaal) wins 1st Nat (z) Bourges 1,383 yearlings
15 Jul 2025
In the national race from Bourges, Rigo Lenaers won 1st National (z) Bourges against 1,383 yearlings with a yearling hen from a proven top pair. Several brothers and sisters of this breeding pair are proven pigeons in shorter races as well as longer national races. These are again descendants of his stock sire "Super 485," a grandson of "Olympiade 003" of Leo Heremans. This bloodline, crossed with other pigeons, is a success story for Rigo, and he's been very successful. He's also racked up other regional victories, including seven first prizes last weekend.

Hen System
Rigo let the hens breed normally during the winter and raise a round of youngsters. Afterward, he put them on widowhood and they are almost always in the aviary, which is day and night during the season. In the spring, when it's still cold, they are allowed inside in the evenings, but during the breeding season, they have to sleep outside to prevent them from mating. They're only allowed inside to eat in the resting loft, and their water is outside, so they don't have much time. They're allowed to train once a day, and so far, they've been doing very well.
They always see their partners at basketing, but they're only allowed to stay together for a maximum of one hour. When they come home, I usually leave them together until the evening. After Bourges, he left them together overnight, and last weekend they flew Sancoins again with two new top pigeons.
