Rigo Lenaers (Vliermaal) wins 2nd National Bourges 3,990 old and yearlings
30 Aug 2025
This year, Rigo Lenaers from Vliermaal in Limburg is having another fantastic season. Perhaps the best of his career yet. Last weekend, Bourges National was on the agenda, and after several weeks of widowhood, the hens were brought to a nest for the final national races of the season. He not only won 1st Provincial and 1st National Zone, but also 2nd National against 3,990 old and yearlings, along with one of his best racing hens in the loft. A real gem with a fantastic palmares.
Rigo also raced the Dizy regional race with his later group of young birds, winning 12 first prizes against 1,834 pigeons. A fantastic result and proof that these pigeons are fast and have stamina. The sister of the Bourges winner also won 1st Regional from Dizy that same weekend, with two arrivals within seconds of each other. Coincidence or not…

Young Pigeons
The young pigeons aren't darkened for very long here; I stop using it when the training flights start. So the first round is usually like this until early May, the later series until early June. He doesn't start supplemental lighting right away either; I only started it on July 20th and then keep it going until the last flight of the season. My young pigeons aren't separated. I think you're overdoing it on the sliding door, and all my pigeons are on grids, both on the floor and in the boxes with automatic conveyor belts. So they do lay eggs occasionally, but they break after a few days, and then I clear them out. The pigeons are just in a good training rhythm, and they're taken out twice a week, and that's it. They have to do the rest themselves.
As for feeding, he uses Hoebrechts mixtures as usual. The pigeons usually get Moulting Mixture, except on Thursday evening, Friday morning, and Friday evening (½ portion). They then get Sport Mix, and Schroeder Tollisan's Tollisol is regularly added to their feed. When they get home, they always get electrolytes for recovery. When I go for a checkup, I always drive to Vincent Schroeder. The supplements I use are either Schroeder Tollisan or Herbovet.
