Spring Fair in Houten, Netherlands Launches Signature Campaign
04 Feb 2026
Registration for the Spring Fair for businesses is going exceptionally well at Expo Houten. Nearly all the business exhibitors who participated last year are back in the Netherlands. It promises to be another lively fair with a wide range of products. From complete pigeon lofts and aviaries to the latest innovations in feed and supplements, it's all there. Hall 2 is full, and in Hall 3, near the terrace, a section has been shifted, where pigeon sellers normally exhibit. This is because in the Netherlands, pigeons are still not allowed to be assembled for events.
The organizers of the Dutch Spring Fair have therefore launched a citizen petition to have pigeons removed from the ban on gathering birds. The intention is to present this petition to the Minister of Agriculture, or at least to policymakers within the ministry. Several scientific studies have shown that pigeons are not susceptible to spreading the avian influenza virus. With the start of the new flying season at the Spring Fair approaching, the organization would also like to ask you to co-sign this petition.
You can sign the petition by entering the following link in your computer's browser: https://www.petities.com/
You will then find the petition you can sign, titled: Stop the national ban on gathering pigeons during bird flu
stop het landelijke verzamelverbod voor duiven tijdens vogelgriep
In three days, 900 signatures have already been collected from all over the Netherlands, including many expressions of support from Belgian and German sports enthusiasts. Some of these, of course, are business-minded, hoping for a successful Spring Fair. But many are now also realizing that in the Netherlands, collective training of pigeons or participating in races is not permitted for the time being. The organizers will certainly do everything in their power to ensure a Spring Fair with pigeons!!!
The 30th Spring Fair will take place on
Saturday, February 28th, and Sunday, March 1st.
Saturday will be the busy day, as has been the case for years. Several bus groups have registered with the organizers. They often combine a visit to Expo Houten with the Lier market. Expo Houten is only a good hour's drive from the Antwerp Ring Road. The entrance fee is €15.00 per person, a weekend ticket costs €25.00, and parking near the halls is free. Children under 12 do not have to pay an entrance fee.
The opening hours for this 30th edition are:
Saturday, February 28, from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM.
Sunday, March 1, from 9:00 AM to 2:00 PM.
Potential exhibitors and visitors with questions should email the organizer: Proff Sport, Pieter Kos. The email address is: info@proffsport.nl
Be sure to mark the date in your calendars!
