The class of the Wolfgang Roeper pigeons Leideman Brothers testify: "Magnus" and "Torsten" are a common thread throughout our colony
06 Feb 2026
Wolfgang about the Leideman Brothers: "I've known the brothers for over 25 years and have always considered them very enthusiastic and talented men. After selling all my breeders in 2016, I depend on fanciers who breed pigeons for me for competitions. For me, the Leideman Brothers are one of the best fanciers in the Netherlands and, more importantly, fanciers I can trust. Since 2017, I've asked André to breed a group of pigeons for me, which he can select himself. He knows his pigeons best. I prefer a lot of cocks, because I only race with cocks."
In one of their sales brochures we read a nice testimonial from Gebroeders Leideman about Wolfgang Roeper:
A true foundation pair in the Leideman colony is 'Magnus' x 'Sister Tip Top 5'. 'Sister Tip Top 5' is a full sister of the 9th-place winner in the final of the 2013 Million Dollar Race and a granddaughter of the old foundation pair 'Tip Top' x 'Zeeuws Meisje'. 'Magnus' comes from the German top pigeon fancier Wolfgang Roeper. André: "We bought pigeons from H&O in the 1990s because we knew he had perhaps the best pigeon in Western Europe in his collection. 'Van Damme' was exhibited at the Olympiad in Utrecht. There we discovered an even better pigeon than 'Van Damme': Wolfgang Roeper's '321', which won the Olympiad title. This '321' won three more first prizes the year after the Olympiad! We immediately turned to Wolfgang for investment, and it paid off; the original Roeper pigeons 'Magnus' and 'Torsten' are among the best breeders we've ever had!" Wolfgang Roeper has always been ahead of his time. He introduced the Vandenabeele pigeons in Germany, raced with the direct descendants and became national and Olympic champion with them ... ten years later he introduced Leo Heremans pigeons in Germany, raced with the direct descendants and became national and Olympic champion with them ... Wolfgang has grown older, sold all his breeders, but never lost his eye for quality! The pigeons that have done very well for him in recent years come from new famous champions: the Leideman brothers. They provided him with, among others, the 1st National Champion Yearlings 2019, the 2nd National Champion Yearlings 2020 and the original Leideman pigeon 'Olympic Wolfgang' represented Germany at the 2022 Olympiad in the all-round category; the most important category for Wolfgang Roeper. Leideman Brothers in the same line as Gaby Vandenabeele and Leo Heremans; That says it all about how Leideman's star has risen in recent years! In many ways, the Leideman brothers and German legend Wolfgang Roeper share similarities. Firstly, both have dominated pigeon racing in their countries for decades... but perhaps even more than André Leideman, Wolfgang Roeper had a special feeling for top quality... and is constantly searching for that special something to take him one step further! Wolfgang Roeper is a phenomenon in Germany. In 2013, he had no fewer than six (!) different Olympiad pigeons in Nitra. This is a unique achievement, especially considering he starts the season with 35 to 40 widowers; he flies exclusively in traditional widowhood. "We've had a good relationship with the German grandmaster since the 1995 Olympic Games in Utrecht," says André. "He's a highly skilled fancier who has taught us a lot and given us many exceptional pigeons."
André Leideman leaves no doubt about it. The enthusiasm with which André and Bert speak about the class of the Wolfgang Roeper pigeons is unparalleled. It makes sense when you analyze the breeding results of "Magnus" and "Torsten." Here's the proof.

As you can see, the Wolfgang Roeper pigeons have had a more than average influence on the successes of the Leideman Brothers.
In a few days, we will also inform you about the power of the Roeper pigeons at the home of Erik Limbourg, Hendriks Florian and the Herbots Brothers.
Now…10 years after the successful sale of his breeding pigeons…the Roeper colony is sadly coming to an end! When Jo Herbots visited Wolfgang a few weeks ago, all 13 remaining racing pigeons were given to Jo Herbots. As Wolfgang handed the pigeons to Jo, he whispered: "Make this a successful sale, because I know that with the quality available, the buyers will be successful. I wish them all the best."
