The SAUDOYEZ tandem, Kévin & Noah from Péruwelz, are among the top Belgian pigeon racing champions.

08 Dec 2025

Kévin Saudoyez (36 years old) is no stranger to pigeon racing. He already boasts numerous provincial and interprovincial victories in national (i.e., extreme middle distance) races, a title of 2nd National Ace Pigeon extreme middle distance KBDB yearlings in 2016, but above all, three national victories in highly prestigious races:

1st Nat. Argenton 2016 against 18,390 yearlings and fastest of 31,939 (Y+O)
with "Marcelyne" BE15-1014621
1st Nat. Châteauroux III 2017 against 4,391 yearlings with "Blacki" BE16-1066700
1st Nat. Bourges I 2018 against 19,129 yearlings with "Stella" BE17-1001053

An exceptional palmares for a young fancier of 36 years, and the icing on the cake is that he also bred pigeon BE24-1071543, which became 1st National Ace Pigeon Sprint KBDB Yearlings in 2025. This top-class pigeon (currently owned by the Herbots Brothers), raced by the Esmanne-Defert tandem (Forchies-la-Marche) and named "Milord" (later renamed "King Kevin"), won in 2025, among other prizes:

1st Soissons 2,251 p
1st St Soupplet 2,277 p
1st Soupplet 1,198 p
1st Soupplet 1,127 p
1st Soupplet 377 p

etc.

In this pigeon's pedigree, we see the famous stock pair of the Saudoyez loft (BE13-9039452 x Gold Ingrid) on both his father's and mother's sides.

With his impressive performances in 2025, "King Kevin" also won "World Best Pigeon 2025" (speed/yearling category) and an Olympiad nomination (category G). The hen BE22-1117874 also distinguished herself this year with, among others:

1st Argenton 355 p. and 1st Nat.Z. against 1,515 old pigeons (fastest of 3,500 p.),
1st Niergnies 652 p.,
2nd Toury 261 p.,
3rd Pont 765 p.,
7th Vierzon 1,313 p.,
12th Toury 345 p.

History of the colony

What is surprising and quite rare is that Kevin Saudoyez doesn't come from a "family linked to pigeon racing"; his father was a canary breeder. In 2007, at the age of 17, he started keeping pigeons in Tertre and took part in his first race in 2008. He won first prize in the young pigeon class at St. Quentin and won three more races that same season. Not a bad start, very motivating, and already displaying the characteristics of a great champion. After completing his first sprint and middle-distance races in 2009, Kevin Saudoyez decided to venture into the extreme middle-distance and national races, with the success we now know of him. He achieved his three national victories in Tertre, but by 2020, with a blended family of four children, the house in Tertre had become too small. He therefore decided to move to Péruwelz, where a larger house with new facilities for pigeon racing was being built (Péruwelz is further west and closer to the Tournai region). In preparation for the move, he decided to sell all his old pigeons in early 2020 and keep only those born in 2018 and 2019. Once the house and lofts were built, 2022 would be his first racing season in Péruwelz.

Kevin and Noah built the new brick loft themselves (21 meters long and 9 meters wide) that houses all their pigeons, with the racing pigeons at the front and the breeding pigeons at the back. Everything was carefully planned and designed by Kevin, with both the pigeons' well-being and practicality in mind. This long racing loft contains five sections for widowers, two for racing hens, and two for young pigeons, but only two small entrances, each divided into two (left for the cocks and right for the hens). These two entrances lead to a hallway with a sliding door, allowing the hens/cocks sections to be separated. Pigeons returning from a race can be cared for, if necessary, before being transferred to their respective sections. Since 2024, Kévin Saudoyez and his stepson Noah (20 years old) have formed the Saudoyez Kévin and Noah duo.

Origins of the colony

The foundation of Saudoyez's strong performances is a golden breeding pair, whose descendants have won no fewer than 45 first prizes (middle distance and extreme middle distance):

Cock: BE13-9039452, from a cross between Kévin's old line and a hen from Chris Hebberecht (Evergem) × Gevaert Van Schorisse (Ronse)

• Hen: Gold Ingrid BE13-6055998, from the Van Gestel Gebroeders (Bevel), based on Paul Huls (Zonhoven)

As for the other origins that have shaped the colony over the years, we find Jean-Claude Debiève (Hornu), Dany Leturcq (Wadelincourt), Chris Hebberecht (Evergem), and Dany Dussausoit (Beloeil), from whom "Stella," the winner of Bourges I Nat. 2018, 19,129 years old, direct descendant. There is also talk of co-breeding with Dany Dussausoit, Gianni Fascella (Bray), and Fréderic Leclercq (Taintignies) to tackle the long distance.

Composition of the colony

The breeding loft will consist of 45 breeding pairs in 2026. The old and yearling racing team will total 99 pigeons: 55 cocks and 44 hens for the extreme middle distance and long distance (on total widowhood), and 12 cocks for the extreme long distance (on classic widowhood). Each year, 150 young pigeons are raised and raced in Péruwelz. Kevin and Noah keep the first and second rounds of the breeders, as well as the youngsters of the best racing pigeons, for themselves. The youngsters from the other rounds are sold or given away as vouchers to pigeon clubs.

Perfect pairs are kept together, and he tries to improve the others by compensating for the weaknesses of some pigeons with the strengths of others, thus achieving perfect physical condition and balance.

Method and Care

All pigeons (breeders and racing pigeons) are paired in early December, and the racing pigeons raise their two youngsters before being separated. Kevin uses total widowhood for the long-distance and extreme middle-distance races, with both cocks and hens basketed weekly. The racing pigeons destined for the extreme long-distance are raced using the classic widowhood system. Daily tasks are clearly divided: Noah takes care of the breeders, Kevin of the racing pigeons, and Ingrid, Kevin's wife, of the youngsters.

The racing pigeons are reunited in the week of their first race and fly every week. During the week, they are sometimes released 30 km away. At the end of the racing season (Bourges in August), the racing pigeons (cocks and hens) are reunited and raced from the nest to give them a boost. The cocks' lofts are not darkened, while the hens' are darkened from March 1st to early May. From early July, artificial lighting is used from 5:00 AM to 10:00 PM, until the end of the races.

The young pigeons are initially kept together, trained, and raced naturally. As the first national race approaches (15 days before), they are separated and raced through a sliding door system. For 2026, the combination has chosen to participate less in national races with young pigeons due to the unfavorable geographical location. The priority will be to assemble a team of yearlings for the following year. They use "Columbi" mixtures and supplements from their friend Frédéric Leclercq (Taintignies) as feed. Kevin adds 5% "Top Granulé" to the seed mixtures (a product rich in vitamins, minerals, and proteins that promotes digestion, intestinal flora, and the elimination of toxins). In addition, the pigeons receive 'Grit Mix' daily, along with 'Tovo' energy seeds (Beyers), and 'Top Form' is regularly added to their drinking water. On the day of their return and the day after, the racing pigeons receive the 'Recovery and Prestige Base' mix with 'Top Biotike', 'Top Electrolytes', and 'Air Reboost' in their drinking water. For the next two days, 'Top Clean' is added to their drinking water to cleanse their intestinal tract, along with 'Top Air', and they are also given the 'Light Prestige' mix. Starting Wednesday, they return to the 'Recovery and Prestige Base' mix, with 'Top Oils' and 'Top Red Beetroot Powder' added to the seeds. On Thursday, the day they are basketed, the racing pigeons are regularly fed to increase their energy levels with 'Recovery and Prestige Base'. 'Top Electrolytes' is added to the drinking water at high temperatures, or 'Top Air' at low temperatures. Regarding veterinary care, Nicolas Schoonheere (Tournai) is consulted three times a year at key times. Racing pigeons are vaccinated against smallpox and paramyxovirus, and young pigeons against rotavirus and smallpox. Kevin prefers natural resistance to treatments, and, as Kevin says, there's no reason to panic if a little trichomonas is detected before the season.
