System

The system here is such that both cocks and hens are raced, the intention is that the cocks will not fly all national flights to limit losses and to keep the motivation in the racing team. That does not mean that they do not fly nationals, at Bourges the first pigeon was a hen but after that they were all cocks.

So they are raced on total widowhood that were paired in the spring and were allowed to pair freely, a small group of hens are raced in a garden loft and they walk in with the young pigeons every day. After training they are brought back to the garden loft every day, the intention here is that they will mate with young cocks later in the season and thus be motivated.

The other group of the racing team were therefore paired for a few weeks in the spring, half of them had eggs and were allowed to brood briefly, the other half were not paired and were then simply separated.

It is striking that these hens are still darkened like the young pigeons and this until mid-June, they are then also raced until the last national flight. At 5:30 pm I put them in the dark in the evening and in the morning I give them light at 7:30 am.

The pigeons train once a day in the morning, first the cocks train and then the hens. The hens then enter the corridor with the cocks and go straight to the aviary. In the evening they are allowed to come in and go to the sleeping loft where rollers are provided on the floor. The training is now usually 20 to 30 minutes, then they fly up again and make an easy round for half an hour a day.

The hens certainly go along every week and do not see each other when they leave, they come home and are allowed to recover before coming together. There are always latecomers which demotivates the pigeons, that is why I only let the pigeons together the next day and I do this in 2 groups for a few hours.
