In the national race from Argenton, the yearlings and old pigeons came together for the first time for one result. This applies to the last 3 national flights of the season. A total of 3,375 old birds arrived and at the start we found the fastest pigeon with Wilfried Verlelst in Heist op den Berg in Antwerp. Wilfried is an avid speed player and has recently also tried his hand at the longer middle distance. If you can win a national victory, you are off to a good start. The winning hen might never have been the winner if everything that went wrong that day had gone wrong. But fortunately that didn't happen and she remains the national winner of Argenton.
Wilfried also had pigeons in the speed race and the rule in the room is that you have to enter clockwise around noon. That's why he was at the room at 12:00 where he was still waiting for the man from the room himself. That's why everything ran a bit late and his clock was only read at 12:10 p.m. Afterwards he had to go back home by car and he came home nervous. He connected his clock and walked to the loft. There he counted his pigeons and he counted one too many, that must be a pigeon from Argenton. Wilfried immediately saw his hen and held it over the antenna at 12:19. Fortunately for him, everything turned out well and she had enough of a lead with the old pigeons, but who knows, this pigeon was the fastest of the entire convoy. We will never know, the pigeon had certainly freshened up a bit when Wilfried held it over the antenne.
Hens in classic widowhood
The hens are in a breeding loft with a small aviary in front of the loft. These hens were initially raced in widowhood and now in the nest towards the end of the season. In the beginning, the breeding boxes are closed and chapels are placed for the living boxes during the week. Only on the day of basketing is the partner shown and ready. Simple, but Wilfried may not have had the hen game under his supervision for long, but a pigeon knows all too well why she has to fly home.
The hens had a nest position of a 10 day old boy. Maybe just a little too big, but Wilfried still wanted to take the chance. The hens were removed from their nest and placed in a basket in the hallway. From the basket they saw the partners sitting on the boy and an hour later he left for the classroom. The speed specialists from a region where every second counted naturally know all possible tricks to motivate the pigeons.
The sports mixture he uses is Van Tilburg Duo and he only works with this mixture. A little less at the beginning of the week, as much as they want at the end. The medical control is in the hands of Dr.Mariën and he does not give much medication. His products of conditioning powder and vitaminral together with conditioning syrup once a month are all that is used.

As a young pigeon, the winner flew 1st twice in the sprint, which I did not expect because the parents both come from Van Hove - Uytterhoeven and are intended for heavier work. But that was already a good signal. As a yearling she already flew a national flight and classified per 10. The test phase is still in full swing here on the national flights and within a short time Wilfried will certainly be competing with the best here every week. This year she also flew Vierzon and Bourges and she was also classified per 10.
