On March 2, 2025, well-known champion Marc Pollin from Snellegem passed away at the age of 78.
Marc, who in recent years competed together with his son Geert, was a hard-working man shaped by the West Flemish soil, who, with all his down-to-earth mentality, fully understood that without dedication, you get nowhere. When it came to pigeon racing, no effort was ever spared.
For Marc, pigeon sport meant working with a strategy and always investing in the future of the colony. For that reason, with one exception, no top birds were ever sold – instead, they were given a place in the breeding loft. World-famous Pollin champions – or better said, "Pollin icons" – include De Perpignan, Dortmunder, Mortifer, and De Limoges.
Thanks to their breeding performance, Marc and Geert could – generations later – take pride in the achievements of pigeons like New Belgian Pride, Joe, Brother Joe, Cadel, Bruce, Montauban II, Limo 301, Brutus, Mister Jarnac, Michiel, and many others.
All-round pigeons… that’s the best way to describe the Pollin birds. Whether it’s 200 km or 900 km… they always manage to finish at the top. But even on other lofts, the Pollin pigeons perform exceptionally well. The list of references is endless and still needs to be updated weekly – even in 2025.
In recent years, under Geert’s leadership, they have successfully participated in various international One Loft Races. Even there, the Pollin pigeons show their exceptional class – proof of this is their 1st place finish in the final race of the renowned Pattaya race.
With Marc's passing, pigeon racing at Walbekestraat in Snellegem also comes to an end. Geert has no ambition to continue the sport. Thanks to the professional guidance of the Herbots team, the Pollin colony will be sold online in multiple parts. All current top racers, breeders, and even some 2025 youngsters will be available online. Geert will only keep a small group of yearlings to breed youngsters for One Loft Races (mainly in Thailand).
Whoever invests in Pollin pigeons is investing in the future of their colony. This is a final opportunity – and then, never again. This is not something to hesitate about!
